چکیده

We examine the effect of theoretically varying the collision-system reduced mass in collisions of He with vibrationally excited molecular hydrogen and observe zero-energy resonances for select atomic “hydrogen” masses less than 1 u or a “helium” mass of 1.95 u. Complex scattering lengths, state-to-state vibrational quenching cross sections, and a low-energy elastic scattering resonance are all studied as a function of collision-system reduced mass. Experimental observations of these phenomena in the cold and ultracold regimes for collisions of He and He with H2, HD, HT, and DT should be feasible in the near future.

Nuclear quantum dynamics in dense hydrogen

Nuclear dynamics in dense hydrogen, which is determined by the key physics of large-angle scattering or many-body collisions between particles, is crucial for the dynamics of planet's evolution and hydrodynamical processes in inertial confinement confusion. Here, using improved ab initio path-integral molecular dynamics simulations, we investigated the nuclear quantum dynamics regarding transpo...

Directly probing anisotropy in atom–molecule collisions through quantum scattering resonances

Anisotropy is a fundamental property of particle interactions. It occupies a central role in cold and ultracold molecular processes, where orientation-dependent long-range forces have been studied in ultracold polar molecule collisions. In the cold collisions regime, quantization of the intermolecular degrees of freedom leads to quantum scattering resonances. Although these states have been sho...

Spin-Exchange in Hydrogen-Antihydrogen Collisions

We consider the spin-exchange in ultracold collisions of hydrogen (H) and antihydrogen (H̄) atoms. The cross sections for transitions between various hyperfine states are calculated. We show that the process of spin exchange in H̄ − H collisions is basically driven by the strong force between proton and antiproton, that spin-exchange cross-sections are proportional to the difference of singlet an...

Scattering Length for Helium Atom-Diatom Collision

We present results on the scattering lengths of He–He2 and He–He2 collisions. We also study the consequence of varying the coupling constant of the atom-atom interaction.

Spin-orbit relaxation of Cl(2P1/2) and F(2P1/2) in a gas of H2.

The authors present quantum scattering calculations of rate coefficients for the spin-orbit relaxation of F(2P1/2) atoms in a gas of H2 molecules and Cl(2P1/2) atoms in a gas of H2 and D2 molecules. Their calculation of the thermally averaged rate coefficient for the electronic relaxation of chlorine in H2 agrees very well with an experimental measurement at room temperature. It is found that t...
